Country: UK
Organisation: Centre for the Study of the Bible and Violence
Based in Bristol, UK, CSBV is a research and resource hub to promote and facilitate scholarship in the area of Bible and Violence, and to produce accessible resources for the church.
Helen is the author of The Bible Doesn’t Tell Me So: Why you don’t have to submit to domestic abuse and coercive control. The book is available in print, Kindle and audiobook. Helen has also produced a set of videos on this material, aimed at church study groups, called The Bible Doesn’t Tell Us So.
My reason for joining CNEDA:
"To network with others who are concerned about domestic abuse in church settings."
Some of my personal and professional interests:
"I am a Baptist minister with the Baptist Union of Great Britain and work at the Bristol Baptist College teaching Old Testament. My research interests are in the areas where the Bible intersects with questions of violence, whether that means interpreting texts of biblical violence, or looking at ways that the Bible is weaponised today. I founded the Centre for the Study of Bible and Violence in 2018."
The languages that I speak, read, and/or write:
"Sadly, only English, properly. I speak a little French. I teach biblical Hebrew and sometimes biblical Greek, but I don’t speak either of those modern languages."
