Erika Sebestyén

Country: Romania

Organisation: érinTés

An ophthalmologist and mental health professional, motivated by her deep love for Jesus and an ardent passion to build a better world for girls and women, Erika perseveres in speaking up against domestic violence, emphasising the role each of us has in preventing this societal disease. She is relentless in her pursuit to raise awareness and mobilise the Christian Church in this work. Her ministry is called erinTes (the Hungarian word for 'touch'), expressing the challenges of building healthy relationships and also the complexity of the healing process for survivors of abuse and violence - a journey that is brought to fullness only by the redemptive, gentle touch of Jesus.

Erika is a member of CNEDA's Steering Committee.

My reason for joining CNEDA:

"The beginnings...I do not remember every detail, but to this day it is a humbling experience of how good and faithful God is to His children. Circumstances brought about the opportunity to join the network. I was fortunate to meet the right people. But I am aware that this is not just coincidence or luck. It is truly God working mysteriously to fulfil His purpose in the lives of His children. Astonished by the invitation, I entered this community with great admiration, gratitude and curiosity, and I was overjoyed to discover new and new people who, moved by the same Spirit, are responding to the call and example of Jesus to reclaim the dignity of women. I cannot say why I joined CNEDA, because it is hard to grasp the reality of what is happening when one is amazed by the way God intervenes in our lives. A God who hears prayers, a God who wants to partner with us in our projects - those projects that are born of His will. My reason for loving and cherishing CNEDA is that I have known in a very practical way that the people who were at the core of it when I joined are God's people who love their neighbours well, even in spite of enormous geographical distances."

Some of my personal and professional interests:

"I love books - reading to my children, and reading good books about women, violence and abuse against them, faith and the church in the midst of it. Empowering and accompanying other women in their healing. Talking with young people, showing them the love of God and helping them to see their value and identity in Christ. Lived faith, intense prayer, healthy eating and good exercise. Caring for the environment. To be a teachable apprentice of Jesus. To conclude, my interest in word pairs: God and people, love and relationships."

The languages that I speak, read, and/or write:

"Hungarian (mother tongue), Romanian (almost mother tongue level), English (acceptable), French (a little - reading better than speaking)."
